Join us for a Document Destruction & Textile Recycling Event on Saturday, April 25 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. The Health & Human Services Department Environmental Health Division, in collaboration with SWANCC and Helping Hands, is hosting a Document Destruction and Textile Recycling Event at Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Rd., A Lot. This event is open to residents who live in a SWANCC member community. Securely shred sensitive personal documents and recycle unwanted textiles such as clothing, shoes, household items and accessories. Please note: School or business materials will not be accepted.

First Person Portrayal: Picasso, Picasso & Paris - A Salon with Gertrude Stein Saturday, April 25 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Fee: $2 Gertrude Stein (1874-1946) was an American author and poet best known for her modernist writings, extensive art collecting and literary salon in 1920s Paris. For some 40 years, the Stein home at 27 rue de Fleurus on the Left Bank of Paris was a renowned Saturday evening gathering place for both expatriate American artists and writers and others noteworthy in the world of vanguard arts of letters, most notably Pablo Picasso. Entrée into the Stein salon was a sought after validation, and Stein became combination mentor, critic and guru to those who gathered around her, including Ernest Hemingway who described the salon in A Moveable Feast.

AARP Smart Driver Classroom Course Tuesday, April 28 & Thursday, April 30 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. Fee: $20 AARP members (must show AARP card), $25 non-members. Learn about up-to-date information regarding changes over time in ourselves, our vehicles, and our roads. This informative course can help you boost safety awareness, refresh and improve driving skills, minimize crash risk and maintain independence. Participants age 55 and older may be eligible to receive a discount on the liability part of their auto insurance for course completion. The cost covers materials. Payment due on first day of class and is handled by the instructor. Cash or check only made out to AARP. Participants should bring a pen or pencil. Must attend both days.
