Aurora is the second-largest city in Illinois, straddling the Fox River across Kane, DuPage, Will, and Kendall counties, about 40 miles west of downtown Chicago. With a population of about 180,000, it was the first city in the U.S. to implement an all-electric street lighting system in 1881, earning it the nickname 'City of Lights.' Aurora is served by two school districts (East Aurora SD 131 and West Aurora SD 129) and is the western terminus of Metra's BNSF Railway line.
