South Elgin is a village on the Fox River in Kane County, about 40 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. With a population of about 24,000, it is known for the Fox River Trail, the South Elgin & Countryside Fire Protection District (ISO Class 2), and proximity to Elgin Community College. Originally settled as Clintonville in 1847, it was incorporated as South Elgin in 1897.
